Another day another print and a book fair

The last week has been full of activity at the Big Fag Press. On Thursday, I was very excited to have the chance to do some more printing on the press, this time with Lucas. As part of an exhibition at Wollongong Art Gallery, Walking Upstream - Waterways of the Illawarra, with Lucas, Kim Williams and Brogan Bunt, Lucas was printing some fine art prints.

Whilst printing, we were challenged to find a balance between the typed text and the map (shown in the picture) - the goal being to have the map in a distinct strong colour blue/black, yet the text shown as defined and clear. We eventually got there in the end, and produced a set of prints ready for the exhibition.

The following day was the opening of the Volume Artspace Book Fair at Woolloomooloo. Thankfully Diego helped Eloise and I set up our stall, he was up and down the ladder hanging prints and he did it so quickly and efficiently. Being our first time at the Fair, it was great to have Diego guide us through a few things and set us up.

Once all set up, Diego and I set off to the credit union so that I could get registered as a signatory on the Big Fag Press account. We rushed to Central, only to find the credit union was closed for lunch! Time was not wasted though, as we sat in the park and Diego went through the financials with me, as a handover for my role as the new Treasurer. It was a lot to take in, but Diego emphasized that I can call him anytime for support and clarity.

Getting back to the Book Fair, Eloise and I had a fabulous time. We sold some of our zines, as well as other prints and booklets and had a fun couple of days. We managed to take turns to get around and meet other stall holders, and made connections with people who are keen to visit the Big Fag Press and check out what we do. There were all sorts of printed matter there including fine art prints, zines, books and graphic design work.

The Big Fag Press seems to be quite well known within the arts community, and it is a privilege to be part of that organisation and be able to chat with various other organisations about what we do and perhaps working together on some projects in the future.
