A little bit star struck
It was really all happening at the Big Fag Press today. As soon as I arrived, Marnee, Diego and Eloise went out to go shopping for things for the renovations, and I was left to man the space. It was interesting to be left there by myself. I got out my sketchbook and charcoal, and started to sketch up some drawings in preparation for our zines for the Artspace Book Fair in October.
I was just sitting there thinking how lovely it is to take the time to sit and draw, something I don't often get the chance to do but know I should do more often, and a lady walked in and introduced herself as Tracey. I showed her around the place, as she expressed interest in getting some fine art prints done. It was all very casual. Then she mentioned her name again - it was Tracey Moffatt , and after studying her work for the past couple of years, including giving presentations about her work, I have to admit I was just a little bit star struck! Tracey had come into the BFP with a view to getting some prints done in the future.
I explained to Tracey that I had studied her work at Uni, and that I was at the BFP as an intern as part of my degree. I mentioned I had to keep a blog and asked if she would mind if I took a photo, she was more than happy to oblige.
Diego, Marnee and Eloise returned, so I introduced them all to Tracey, and Diego sat down with Tracey and talked about the possibilities of doing some fine art prints for her.
We did manage to get a group photo of us all with Tracey. It was quite funny because as a photographer and filmmaker, Tracey could help but instruct us all how to pose for the camera, and also instruct my sister who had popped in for lunch, how to take the photograph. It was a lot of fun and I felt very privileged to have met Tracey Moffatt, and do hope that she will visit us again to do some fine art prints.
After Tracey left, we all joked about how star struck I was, and how I should just act really cool, as if I am not impressed that the artist chosen to represent Australia at the 2017 Venice Biennale just popped in for a chat! What an exciting day.
For the rest of the day, we all sat down and discussed our plans for the renovations. This coming Saturday is going to be a working bee, and we have such a big job ahead of us as we have a lot of stuff to get rid of, plus we have to move heavy plan drawers and equipment around so that we can give the place a good clean in preparation for painting.
